
Haridwar Minor Hockey Girl Rape Case: A case of rape of a minor female hockey player has come to light in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. The victim has accused her coach of rape. Accused coach Bhanu Aggarwal, who is a resident of Champawat district, has been arrested by the police and sent to jail. This incident has created a stir in the entire state, especially at a time when the 38th National Games is going to be organized in Uttarakhand from January 28.
This incident came to light from Sidkul police station area of Haridwar and the police registered a case on the complaint of the victim’s father. The accused was arrested under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and POCSO Act. Medical examination of the victim has been done, and the forensic team has collected evidence from the spot, which has been sent for investigation. Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Singh Doval said that the matter is being investigated at a high level.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi and invited him to inaugurate the National Games. The hockey stadium of Haridwar, which is named after the country’s famous female hockey player Vandana Kataria, is the main venue of this event. But this rape case has put a question mark on the preparations for the National Games. Concerns have increased regarding the safety of players.
After getting information about the incident, Uttarakhand Sports Minister Rekha Arya reached Haridwar and met the victim and her family. Terming the incident as a “heinous crime”, he said that the government completely stands with the victim. The minister also said that the contractual services of the accused coach have been terminated with immediate effect. This incident of rape of a minor hockey player in Haridwar is not only a serious challenge for the sports department, but it also raises questions on the safety of female players.
