Head Coach Gautam Gambhir: Recently, the topic of mutual disunity within Team India has been much discussed. Most questions are being raised on Head Coach Gautam Gambhir because after 10 years under his coaching, the Indian team will not be able to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25). Earlier, under Gambhir, the Indian team had lost the ODI series against Sri Lanka for the first time in 27 years. New Zealand recently became the first team to clean sweep India in a Test series at home. Now according to a report, Gambhir has only 66 days left to prove himself.
Amidst this poor coaching record, a BCCI source quoted by PTI has said that if Team India’s performance does not improve till the Champions Trophy, then Gambhir can be removed from the post of head coach. The source said, “There is still a Test match to be played against Australia and then the Champions Trophy will be played. If the performance of the Indian team does not improve by then, Gambhir’s post as head coach will also not be safe.”
According to the report, it has been said that BCCI is not yet ready to give any decision on Gambhir. The board still wants to give him more time, but in the meantime an update has also come out that Gambhir is continuously experimenting with the playing eleven, due to which a feeling of insecurity is being created among the players. At present, all that can be said is that Gambhir probably has time only till the Champions Trophy to prove himself.
The schedule of the Champions Trophy has been revealed, which will start on 19th February and the final will be played on 9th March. All the matches of the Indian team will be played in Dubai under the hybrid model, while the matches of other teams will be played in Pakistan.
