4% additional fees can be imposed on companies launching satellite internet service in India. On Friday, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India i.e. TRAI recommended the government to increase tax on spectrum prices.
According to this, companies like Elon Musk’s Starlink will have to pay 4% tax on their annual revenue to the government. Also, every customer in urban areas will have an additional charge of ₹ 500 annually. There will be no fees in rural areas.
Spectrum distribution will be allotted for 5 years
TRAI has fixed the period of spectrum distribution 5 years, which can be extended by 2 years. Along with this, the spectrum fee has been kept at the minimum ₹ 3,500 per MHz annually. On the basis of TRAI’s recommendations, the Department of Telecom will make a proposal and send it to the cabinet.
Jio and Airtel have tied up Starlink
Two big telecom companies of the country Jio and Airtel have tied up with Ilon Musk’s Starlink to provide satellite internet service in India.
Under the agreement, SpaceX and Airtel will work together to provide Starlink Services in Business, educational institutions, healthcare centers and remote areas. The possibilities of integrating Starlink Technology in Airtel’s current network infrastructure will be searched.
