New Delhi. Many office goers would agree that getting stuck in traffic is an everyday hassle, especially for those living in busy areas like Noida or Gurgaon, who have to go through this pain almost every day. If you live in these areas, you would have to leave home much earlier to reach appointments, flights or even office on time. Still, even the worst traffic jam in Delhi-NCR cannot match the traffic jam on the Beijing-Tibet Expressway in 2010.
Just imagine that you are stuck in traffic jam not for a few hours but for 12 days. Yes, the longest traffic jam in history did not last for two-four hours but lasted for 12 days. Thousands of passengers were stranded in this traffic jam. This jam was more than 100 kilometers long and it had completely stopped life.

how it all started
This jam started on 14 August 2010. Actually, construction work was going on at that place and heavy vehicles were coming and going there. Due to this there was a traffic jam. Trucks carrying coal and construction materials from Mongolia to Beijing blocked the expressway, which was already partially closed due to ongoing road construction. Meanwhile, mechanical fault occurred in the vehicles. All these circumstances came together and an extraordinary traffic jam situation was created. This stopped the vehicles for several days. For those who were trapped, life became a daily struggle. People had to sleep, eat and endure in their cars.
how to remove jam
To clear the motorway, authorities immediately stopped traffic on other roads. The stranded trucks were removed first. With this, traffic can slowly return. The world’s longest traffic jam ended on 26 August 2010 after 12 days of efforts.
